The Ceremonies are an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. I remember a fan blowing a dry wash cloth off of my headboard, onto my head at that very moment and me almost jumping out of my bed, At the time I was reading a lot of Steven King and Dean Koontz books, and The Ceremonies is one of the few that really stuck out with me over the years as an amazing read. The Ceremonies’ sound has been described as ‘80s New Wave nostalgia meets cutting-edge alternative rock. Ambiguous I know, but I don't want to give away any plot. PASS IN REVIEW. And while I could forgive a slow pace (some of my favorite books are slower than this), this thing is filled with unlikable, unmemorable characters. Start by marking “The Ceremonies” as Want to Read: Error rating book. The Ceremonies is a modern day Gothic novel, a work in the vein of Lovecraft’s non-Mythos stories and Arthur Machen. This is a signature work in the horror field---circular like the ouroboros mentioned within the story---that shows how the greats of the past influenced the creation of The Ceremonies. (that woulkd be dull.) Klein weaves a well-enough tale of a rural community, completely severed from the outside world, where everyone knows everyone and all day the Lord's praises are sung. Hardcore is a genre that revels in certain clichés—the ultimate of which is making a record that renounces your ties to hardcore. Now THAT'S scary. Since delivering his novella “Events on Poroth Farm” to critical acclaim over forty years ago, Klein’s output has consisted of just over a dozen short works (gathered across two collections, Dark Gods and Reassuring Tales) and one novel, The Ceremonies. Written by: Bruce Priddy T.E.D. Klein is obviously an expert in the field, and often quotes and references authors famous and those that are less well known.
